Take action and email your MP

July 18, 20263 min read

Email your MP. It takes five minutes.

The Women's Health Strategy promised to end the wait for an endometriosis diagnosis. Then nothing happened. So we're asking the people who are supposed to answer for it.

I've written my own open letter to the incoming Prime Minister. But the thing that actually shifts this is lots of us writing to our own MPs. Here's how, in about five minutes.

In April, the government published a Women's Health Strategy that said all the right things. It promised to eliminate the diagnostic odyssey for conditions like endometriosis, a wait that currently averages 9 years and 4 months.

But it came with no firm timelines and no dedicated funding. The update we were expecting hasn't appeared. The Health Secretary who signed it has already left. And our diagnosis times are getting longer, not shorter.

A letter from a constituent is one of the few things an MP's office can't ignore. Here's how to send one without spending your evening on it.

Five steps

Genuinely five minutes. We've written the hard part for you.

1. Find your MP
Enter your postcode and it gives you your MP's name and how to contact them.
It has to be your own MP. They can only act for people who live in their area. That's why the postcode matters.
Find your MP here.

2. Copy the email below
Paste the whole template into a new email, or into your MP's contact form.

3. Fill in the highlighted bits
There are only three. Your MP's name, your address including postcode, and one line about you. That last one doesn't need any detail. Pick one:
· "I live with endometriosis."
· "I have a gynaecological condition that took years to diagnose."
· "I'm writing as someone affected by women's health conditions."
· "My daughter / sister / friend lives with endometriosis."
Please include your address. Offices often bin anything without a constituency address, so they can check you're theirs.

4. Change one small thing
Reword a sentence in your own words, even slightly. Offices spot 50 identical emails and count them as one. Making it a little bit yours means it lands as a real letter.

5. Send it
That's it. If they reply, drop it in the group. We want to see who says what, and who says nothing.

The email

Subject: Delivering the Women's Health Strategy

Dear [MP's name],

I'm a constituent living at [your address + postcode].

[Your one line about you.]

The Women's Health Strategy published in April promised to "eliminate the diagnostic odyssey" for conditions like endometriosis, currently an average 9-year-4-month wait to diagnose. But it came with no firm timelines or funding, the implementation update expected around June hasn't appeared, and the Health Secretary has changed since it was published.

Please could you ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, on my behalf:

  1. When will the implementation plan be published, and will it have clear timelines and funding?

  2. What will actually eliminate the diagnostic delay for endometriosis, given there's still no dedicated care pathway or fund?

I'd be grateful for a response on what you'll do to raise this. Thank you for representing me.

Yours sincerely,
[Your full name]
[Your address + postcode]

Please note, this is not medical or legal advice, just a nudge to be heard. Send the email to your own MP, in your own words. The more of us who do it, the harder it is to ignore.
